Sydney is a best selling author but even though she has an advance on her next book she hasn't been able to write a word.Ever since she's had a stalker both on the internet an following her .Her fiancee has been trying to get her to quit writing.He's angry because she had to postpone their wedding because of rewrites and editing.Then she had to head up a conference for editors.Then take questions when a guy keeps saying that he's her biggest fan she starts to think of her stalker her agent says in thirty minutes she will be signing books.After she sees a woman trying to get an autograph an freaks out and runs up the stairs to her room.Then her fiancee comes in an says lets go out to have a steak at first she says no but then finally says ok .At they are sitting at their table an old high school friend comes up and he's is so handsome now she introduces him to her fiancee and then Cole the friend says why am I a tutor when we used to date.He starts making jokes an has her fiancee laughing then Cole says I have to get back to my girlfriend .A few minutes Later he's back asking them to join them an have dinner with them her fiancee doesn't even ask he says yes.They join Cole an Tess.Her fiancee is getting along with Cole.Then Cole asks if they would like to spend the weekend with them.There are so many twists an turns to this story you will be riveted til the very last page.I can hardly wait to see what's next by this multi talented author.

    I wanted to love this book, but I'll give it a decent like. The story started out strong and held me engaged until the midway point where things started to go off the rails. I couldn't swallow the ending which was too far-fetched. The premise was good but the ending needed work to make it believable. The author kept great pacing for most of the book, and created some interesting characters.

    I will caution him to watch for repetitions in the future. Some character thoughts were repeated too frequently and the number of times someone offered a "thin smile" or "smiled thinly" really started to become distracting due to excess. I would say this author has plenty of potential. I will definitely give his work another go. A quick popcorn movie-type read.

    This was my first James Caine book I've had the pleasure of reading. I enjoyed the story so much that I went looking for his other work. I must say...this author has a bit of a bent and twisted mind - in a good way - for murder mysteries. There are twists to his plots that you don't see coming. Very entertaining for sure.
